Version 1.3 - Tempo and set review customization
What's New π¨
Eccentric tempo tracking
βMetric now tracks and reports your eccentric tempo for each rep. Tempo tracking is a great way to keep yourself honest and train for better control on the descent.
Customize your highlights cards
βYou can now pick your preferred display settings, choosing which metrics and highlights get shown on the training dashboard. You can tune Metric to better support your goals.
Bodyweight recording
βYou can now keep track of your bodyweight on your profile. This feature doesnβt do much (for now) but very soon Metric will leverage this data for calculating more advanced scores like relative strength and power.
Improvements β¨
- Algorithm improvements. Metric has been improved with better handling of unilateral and Olympic lifts.
Fixes π
- Inevitable bug fixes. Another release, another slew of bugs crushed and general usability improvements help Metric be faster and more reliable than ever!
Version 1.2 - Bar chart mods, algo fix, snatches
What's New π¨
Snatch velocity tracking
Metric now supports tracking for Snatch variations. Be sure to place your phone in a position that allows for the entire lift to fit in the frame.
Bug report button
Users now have a direct line to the Metric development team so they can report issues, share glitchy videos and request features.
Improvements β¨
- Compact bar charts on the home page. The Metric UI is now cleaner, with the bar chart getting far easier to access.
- Stability improvement to filter false repetitions. Thanks to your feedback we were able to find a bug causing false rep detections when phones were in certain positions. This should now be much more reliable.
Fixes π
- Moved some pixels around to keep Metric looking slick and easy to use.
- Improved the login, sign-in and forgot password flow, including a bug fix for keychain access.
Version 1.1 - Context, zoom, custom plate size
What's New π¨
Training context
Metric now provides simple training context information that helps you determine how well you are lifting. The difference between the current set and the last set you performed of the same exercise at the same weight is shown below each stat on the homepage.
Camera zoom capability
Users setting up in tight spaces rejoice! You can now pinch to zoom. If your phone features a wide angle lens you can now use that extra space too.
Custom plate sizes
Now it is possible to train with those odd sized plates floating around your gym. When entering the set exercise information add the diameter of the largest plate on the bar and Metric can deliver accurate data.
Improvements β¨
- Less invasive alerts in camera setup. Metric will still alert you when stabilisation issues are detected, but will be a bit calmer This makes it easier to play with the new Zoom feature and not feel you are being yelled at by a computer!
Fixes π
- A bug that caused noisy reps for some users has been tracked and fixed.
- A laundry-list of housekeeping and pixel pushing was also achieved.
β
Version 1.0.1 - Ballistic lifts and intelligent rep detection
What's New π¨
Major algorithm upgrade
Metric has thrown out the rulebook (again π) by using an all-new intelligent rep feature classifier that determines your actual rep start and end points. With this smart algorithm update your rep velocity and ROM data is more truthful and actionable than ever before, and Metric can now easily handle ballistic lifts.
Ballistic lifts added
Several new lifts have been added to the exercise list including: loaded jumps (trap bar and barbell), cleans, jerks, push-press, high-pulls and step-ups. This is made possible thanks to the new rep feature classifier algorithm.
Support for multi-athlete recording
Early access users of Metric for Teams can now quickly switch between athletes while using one device to record sets.
Support for deleting sets
For future planned capabilities we have now added the ability to delete a recorded set entirely. This can be handy if you are messing about showing someone how to use the app and donβt want their set saved in your training history (hint hint).
Improvements β¨
- Search field on the exercise selection screen. You can now quickly filter the list to find your lift.
- Fewer taps between sets. Metric previously had an extremely convenient workflow for adding a new set, but after hundreds of sets recorded we realised we could significantly reduce the taps required by condensing everything to a single screen prior to recording.
Fixes π
- Accelerometer tweaks to reduce false set cut-offs. Metric was previously a little sensitive to the device being moved and would prematurely end sets. Dropping your deadlifts is now less likely to kill the set recording (thanks Bryce!)
- General bug squashing. As ever Metric has had a range of small bugs or crashes resolved.
β
Version 0.6.0 - Improved 3D tracking and correction
What's New π¨
New exercises
Two new exercises added to the library - Step Ups and Floor Press.
Improvements β¨
- Overhauled the tracking algorithm. Metric is now able to record sets reliably from a wider range of phone positions, including placing the phone lower down relative to the barbell.
- X & Z axis correction. Metric now features X-axis and Z-axis correction so mean velocity is more accurate, and aligns with other velocity tracking technologies that also offer X-axis correction.
Fixes π
- Touch ups and bug squashing. As usual stability has been tweaked, bugs and crashes should be less common as a result.
β
Version 0.5.4 - Set editing and rep removal
What's New π¨
Editing set details and hiding reps
You can now change the exercise or weight after recording a set. Even better, Metric now allows you to exclude a rep from the results. Maybe you pulled the bar too hard on set-up? No problem, press the icon next the detected rep to remove it.
Improvements β¨
- Variance is now consistency. Previously Metric reported how varied your range of motion was each set. Now Metric displays how consistent - the inverse number. Basically you should aim for 100% consistency!
- Optimisations for older phones. Users with older devices (especially on iOS 14), were sometimes getting some funky results. Metric is now better optimised for these devices and should be more reliable for these users.
- Memory handling restructure. When video was being reprocessed for accuracy, sometimes results would be wildly inaccurate. The culprit was memory handling; Metric now handles memory properly so more accurate results are in fact more accurate.
Fixes π
- Tiny pop-up is no longer. A micro-sized information box in the app would randomly show up after a set and force users to re-start. We hunted down a tiny error that caused the tiny pop up and it should no longer be a problem.
- Touch ups and bug squashing. As usual stability has been tweaked, bugs and crashes should be less common as a result.
Version 4.4 - Training streaks and home page stats
What's new π¨
Training streaks
βKeep your training consistent with a gentle nudge from the new streaks feature in Metric. Complete at least one workout every week to keep your training streak going.
Weekly training summary
βThe home workout page in Metric has been refreshed to show you some key stats as soon as you open the app. You can now see your weekly workout tally, new records set this week along with a recovery clock, showing you how many hours it has been since you last finished a workout.
Improvements β¨
Tempo tracking improvements
βThanks to user feedback we were able to make some further improvements to tempo tracking in Metric. Eccentric and pause tempo durations are now more reliable.
Bug fixes π
- Minor cosmetic and speed optimisations throughout the app
- Improved empty state views for all pages where data might not yet be available.
- Improved behaviour for the keyboard during workouts, it now stays put allowing for faster entry of weights and reps.
- Reinstated the quick-add load buttons for incrementing your weights when logging a workout
β
Version 4.3 - Estimated 1RM, interactive charts
What's new π¨
1RM estimation (Pro)
βMetric now offers in-app, real-time one rep max (1RM) estimation on all your velocity tracked exercises. Simply train as normal and once you have completed 3 or more sets across a range of loads your estimated 1RM value will be shown. Use this to help calibrate your % based training, track progress or simply compete with your friends. Set a custom velocity target for your e1RM for each exercise in the exercise settings menu during your workout. Learn more about the 1RM feature here.
Performance page refresh (Pro)
A fresh look for the performance page in the app with seperate charts for each exercise. Track your progress on strength, power and 1RM based scorse, and select from a wider array of time frames to dive even deeper into your training history and performance over time.
Tonnage calculation (Pro)
See the total weight lifted for a given exercise during your workout with our new tonnage calculation feature, enabling better tracking of your training volume.
Time under tension calculation (Pro)
βMeasure the total time you complete for a given exercise with the new time under tension metric. This helps in understanding workout intensity, volume or work completed and planning recovery. Combined with tonnage, time under tension is aΒ great number to keep an eye on for maximising hypertrophy and muscle growth.
Improvements β¨
Interactive charts
βAll charts within Metric are now interactive. Get a closer look at your training data by dragging on any chart to reveal more detailed insights.
Exercise settings (Pro)
βEverything about your exercises can now be customised from one central hub. Set up your ideal training view, adjust 1RM velocity targets, and choose which data is displayed during your workout and in your set reviews. Unified styling
βThis update improves the app styling making everything just a little easier on the eyes. Users with accessibility fonts enabled on their device will now have a much smoother experience, with text being clearer than ever.
One-rep set tracking improved
βMetric would sometimes miss singles. Thanks to our powerlifters helping track down this issue with example videos, missed singles should be a thing of the past.
Bug fixes π
- Fixed a weird visual issue when expanding and collapsing exercise cards on the workout page
- Fixed a funky thing that would cause an active workout to not fill the entire screen - now it always fills the entire screen
- Bumped the keyboard a touch so that the current set row and the next row are both visible. A small thing that makes entering your weights at least 3x faster
- The weight and rep details from your last set now get passed into a new set during a workout more reliably.
Version 4.1 - Template sharing, exercise multi-select
What's new π¨
Exercise multi-select
βYou can now add exercises to your workout or template in bulk without having to go back and forth from the exercise list. Simply enable multi-select and add all your exercises in one go.
Template sharing (Pro)
βShare your favourite workout templates with friends or clients, making it easy to collaborate on training programs. Perfect for online coaches using Metric Teams to program for their clients or for friends who enjoy training together.
Improvements β¨
Drag to reorder exercises in active workouts
βCustomise your workout order in real-time by dragging and dropping exercises within an active workout. This gives you complete control over your training session sequencing.
Bug fixes π

Velocity trends
βA new trend card compares your current set velocity against your six-week historical average. See at a glance whether you're trending up (well recovered and ready to push, trending down (potentially fatigued or not lifting with intent), or holding steady, and tap through for a detailed chart breakdown. Learn more about how Metric calculates Trends here β
Set quality warnings
βAfter each recording, Metric now analyses your setup and flags potential issues β viewing angle, framing, plate size, 0 rep reps, and device stability. These replace the old generic "no reps" message with specific, actionable feedback so you can fix issues and get better data on your next set.
Device stability detection
βYour phone now needs to be stable before recording can begin. An on-screen status pill shows whether your device is ready, needs to be held steady, or stood upright. Recording is disabled until the device is stationary and automatically stops if significant movement is detected mid-set.
Fullscreen video playback
βVideo playback can now be expanded to full screen with a tap. Includes a time scrubber, mute toggle, and your bar path and stats overlay β all carried over seamlessly between the mini player and expanded view.
Intuitive video playback
